Rakibul Hussain of the Congress party has made a record by winning with a margin of 10.12 lakhs.
Hussain defeated All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal on Assam’s Dhubri seat.
Hussain defeated Ajmal by a margin of 10,12,476 votes, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
In Assam, the Congress party won three of the state’s 14 seats. Overall, the party has so far won 99 seats, according to CNN-News 18.
Overall, the better-than-expected performance of Congress and its allies in the INDIA bloc stopped the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) short of the majority mark of 272. The INDIA bloc with its 232 seats mounted a tough challenge to the BJP’s 240 seats. While the BJP has fallen short of the majority-mark, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has crossed the majority mark with its 292 seats.
While the PTI reported that Hussain had won by a “record” margin, another victory with a similar huge margin was seen in Madhya Pradesh.
In MP’s Indore, Shankar Lalwani of the BJP won by a margin of over 10 lakh votes. He defeated Sanjay of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) by a margin of 10,08,077 votes, according to the ECI.
Even as the BJP lost elsewhere in North India, most notably in Uttar Prades, the party won all the 29 seats in Madhya Pradesh.
