The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) has elected Narendra Modi as its leader.
The NDA held a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Residence on Wednesday and unanimously passed the resolution electing Modi as the bloc’s leader.
While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not secured enough seats to reach the majority-mark of 272 to form the government on its own, the BJP-led NDA’s tally is well beyond the mark.
While the BJP has won 240 seats, the NDA’s tally is 292. The NDA constituents Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Janata Dal-United (JD-U) with their 16 and 12 seats respectively have emerged as kingmakers.
