Shekhar Suman has been garnering rave reviews for his portrayal in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, the actor opened up about the criticism the show has received by the viewers in Pakistan.

Suman said, “There are some people of the neighbouring country. You could have made it and why are you even discussing our Heeramandi? We don’t discuss your films. We don’t even know whether you make films.

The actor added, “Lot of stupid people are fussing and obsessing over it, talking about it and questioning the historical accuracy and authenticity and chronology, but Bhansali saab is known for his dystopian sagas. He is known for a world that he creates. He is a master craftsman. He creates his own world and that’s cinema. Cinema should not be questioned, interpretation should not be questioned because that’s his point of view.”

While fans have showered love on the veteran actor, his oral sex scene with Manisha Koirala has grabbed all the limelight.

Talking about that scene, Suman’s character Nawab approaches Koirala’s Mallikajaan but is too drunk to realize where she is sitting. As per Shekhar, filmmaker Bhansali envisioned the actor’s character turning around for fellatio mid-air thinking that Mallikajaan is sitting on that side.

While talking to PinkVilla, Shekhar revealed that he couldn’t tell his wife Alka about the scene. “I couldn’t even tell my wife what he is doing. When I came back from the shoot, she said you did a scene and you are not telling me about it. I said ‘voh batane layak hai hi nahi aur karke dikhane layak toh bilkul bhi nahi. Voh tum seedha hi dekh lena’ (It’s not worth telling and not absolutely not worth being perfomed again. You just watch it.)” said Suman.
