It has been two days since election results were announced and despite getting a majority in the Lok Sabha, the NDA has not yet staked claim to form the government.
Since June 4, a lot has happened in the political circles with leaders from both the alliances, the INDIA bloc and the National Democratic Alliance, gathering in the bureaucratic lanes of Delhi to discuss the future of action.
Meanwhile, the INDIA bloc led by Congress has unanimously decided not to stake claim to form the government and announced that the alliance would put a strong opposition on the floor of the house.
The NDA has bagged 293 out of 543 seats in the Lok Sabha while the INDIA bloc has won 234 seats. The ruling alliance suffered a setback in Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra while the Bharatiya Janata Party alone could cross the magic mark of 272.
Andhra’s Telegu Desam Party (TDP) and Bihar’s Janata Dal (United) have emerged as kingmakers in the NDA after both parties became the second and third-largest parties in the alliance after BJP.
There are a lot of things that need to be considered before the National Democratic Alliance can finally stake claim to form a government.
Here’s a look at all the prerequisites that need to be carried out before PM Modi and the new Union Cabinet take oath on June 8:
The Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar and other election commissioners will meet President Droupadi Murmu to submit the list of newly elected members. Following this, the process of forming the government will commence
After Wednesday’s meeting with all alliance partners where Narendra Modi was declared the leader of NDA, the BJP will hold a meeting with all NDA-ruled state chief ministers and MPs
Earlier, TDP’s Chandrababu Naidu was supposed to take oath as the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh on June 9 but the event has been postponed as the leader will travel to Delhi for the NDA meeting
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will hold the first meeting with ministers today (Thursday) after the poll debacle. In UP, the ruling party won 33 out of 80 seats while the Samajwadi Party bagged 37 seats
