A stronghold seat is one which a party has been winning consistently with a margin of over 10 per cent for the last three Lok Sabha general elections.

Uttar Pradesh

In the Ghaziabad constituency in Uttar Pradesh, BJP has performed spectacularly in the last four Lok Sabha elections. In 2024, the winning margin is 3,36,965 which is 22.92 per cent of the total vote cast in the seat. In 2019, the winning margin was a whopping 5,01,500 which was 32.9 per cent of the total votes. Similarly in 2014, the winning margin was 5,67,260 making upto 42.26 per cent of the total votes. It was 90,681 and 10.93 per cent in 2009 respectively.

In Pilibhit constituency, BJP achieved a similar feat with the winning margin at 1,64,935 votes which is 14.21 per cent of the total votes. While in 2019, the margin was 2,55,627 and the vote share was 21.54 per cent, in 2014 it was 3,07,052 and 29.23 per cent respectively. In 2009, it was 2,81,501 margin was of votes and vote share was 33.59 per cent.

The Gorakhpur seat saw BJP having 1,03,526 votes as the winning margin and 8.97 per cent in vote share. This was 3,01,664 and 25.46 respectively in 2019. The same was 3,12,783 and 30.07 per cent in 2014 and 2,20,271 and 29.33 per cent in 2009 respectively.

Madhya Pradesh

The Sagar constituency in Madhya Pradesh recorded a winning margin of 4,71,222 votes which was 40.96 per cent of the total votes cast. In 2019, the same was 3,05,542 and 29.46 per cent respectively. It was 1,20,737 and 13.54 per cent in 2014 and 1,31,168 and 23 per cent in 2009.

In the Damoh constituency in Madhya Pradesh, BJP has performed spectacularly in the last four Lok Sabha elections. In 2024, the winning margin is 4,06,426 which is 37.32 per cent of the total vote cast in the seat. In 2019, the winning margin was 3,53,411 which was 30.36 per cent of the total votes. Similarly in 2014, the winning margin was 2,13,299 making up to 23.39 per cent of the total votes. It was 70,877 and 11.83 per cent in 2009 respectively.

The Jabalpur seat has proved to be a fortunate one for the BJP. In 2024, the winning margin was 4,86,674 votes which is 42.01 per cent of the vote share and in 2019, the margin was at 4,54,744 votes which was 35.99 per cent in terms of vote share. In 2014, the margin stood at 2,08,639 forming 20.12 per cent of the total votes cast. The year 2009 brought a winning margin of 1,06,003 votes for the BJP comprising 16.73 per cent of the total votes.

In Vidisha, which will now be represented by former state chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in the Lower House of Parliament, the winning margin this year was 8,21,408 votes with the vote share standing at 56.43 per cent. In 2019, the margin was 5,03,084 forming a vote share of 40.24 per cent. Similarly in 2014, the margin stood at 4,10,698 and vote share at 38.6 per cent. In 2009, the figure stood at 3,89,844 and 70.06 per cent respectively.

In Betul constituency of Madhya Pradesh, BJP’s winning margin stood at 3,79,761 votes this year while it was 27.2 per cent of the vote share. The winning margin was 3,60,241 votes in 2019 and the vote share was 26.53 per cent. The same was 3,28,614 votes and 31.36 per cent in 2014 and 97,317 and 15.29 per cent in 2009 respectively.

Gujarat

In the constituency of Ahmedabad East, BJP won with a margin of 4,61,755 votes this year with 40.92 per cent vote share. In 2019, the margin was 4,34,330 votes and 38.91 per cent vote share while in 2014, it was 3,26,633 and 33.14 per cent respectively. In 2009, the margin was 86,056 votes and vote share was 14.39 per cent.

In Vadodara, the winning margin was 5,82,126 votes for BJP and vote share was 48.02 per cent this year. In 2019, the winning margin was 5,89,177 votes and 48.2 per cent vote share and in 2014, the margin stood at 5,70,128 votes and vote share at 49.08 per cent. The figures were 1,36,028 and 18.21 per cent respectively in 2009.

The Navsari seat saw 7,73,551 winning margin for the BJP and 57.8 vote share in 2024. In 2019, it was 6,89,668 votes in margin and 52.73 per cent in vote share. The same was 5,58,116 and 56.35 per cent in 2014 while it was 1,32,643 and 17.51 per cent in 2009.

This year, the Kachchh constituency saw a winning margin of 2,68,782 for the BJP and the vote share was 24.54 per cent. In the previous Lok Sabha election in 2019, it was 3,05,513 in margin and the vote share was 29.86 per cent. The same stood at 2,54,482 and 26.85 respectively in 2014. The figure was 71,343 in 2009 while the vote share was 12.65 per cent.

In Gandhinagar, the winning margin this year was 7,44,716 votes and the vote share was 56.34 per cent. In 2019, the margin was 5,57,014 votes and the vote share was 43.38 per cent and in 2014, the winning margin was 4,83,121 votes which stood out to be 42.55 per cent vote share. In 2009, it was 1,21,747 votes and the vote share was 15.4 per cent.

The Ahmedabad West constituency saw 2,86,437 votes as the winning margin and the vote share was at 29.63 per cent in 2024. In the previous Lok Sabha election in 2019, it was 3,21,546 in margin and the vote share was 32.25 per cent. The same stood at 3,20,311 and 33.21 respectively in 2014. The figure was 91,127 in 2009 while the vote share was 13.2 per cent.

The Surat seat saw 5,48,230 as the winning margin in 2019 and 51.31 vote share. In 2014, it stood at 5,33,190 and 56.25 per cent respectively. The same was 74,798 and 10.74 per cent in 2009. In 2024, the BJP won the seat unopposed.

Bihar

In Sheohar this year, the winning margin is 29,143 votes which is 2.76 per cent of the vote share but it was for its ally JDU. In 2019, it was 3,40,360 votes and 33.88 per cent while it was 1,36,239 votes in winning margin, the vote share was 16.16 per cent in 2014. The story in 2009 saw 1,25,684 votes as winning margin and 21.93 per cent as the vote share.

In the Patna Sahib seat, the winning margin this year was 1,53,846 votes which was 14.3 per cent of the vote share. In the previous edition of the Lok Sabha polls in 2019, the winning margin was 2,84,657 votes comprising 28.98 per cent vote share. The pyear 2014 saw 2,65,805 votes in winning margin and 30.13 per cent in vote share. In 2009, the figures were 1,66,770 votes and 30.19 per cent respectively.

The Purvi Champaran seat in Bihar witnessed a winning margin of 88,287 votes and the vote share was 8.22 per cent this year. In 2019, the winning margin was 2,93,648 votes and the vote share was 29.38 per cent. The same was 1,92,163 votes and 23.36 per cent was the vote share. In 2009, the winning margin was 179,290 votes and the vote share was 16.45 per cent.

Maharashtra

The Jalgaon constituency in Maharashtra saw the BJP win by 2,51,594 votes and the vote share at 21.51 per cent. In the previous Lok Sabha election in 2019, it was 4,11,617 in margin and the vote share was 37.82 per cent. The same stood at 3,83,525 and 38.73 per cent respectively in 2014. The figure was 96,020 in 2009 while the vote share was 14.62 per cent.

In 2024, the Beed seat saw 6,553 votes as winning margin and 0.43 per cent as the vote share. The same was 1,68,368 and 12.45 per cent in 2019, 1,36,454 and 11.07 per cent in 2014 and 1,40,952 and 13.12 per cent in 2009.

Chhattisgarh

The Surguja seat saw BJP winning by 64,822 votes this year which is 4.45 per cent in vote share. The same stood at 1,57,873 votes in margin and 12.33 per cent in vote share in 2019. The year 2014 saw BJP having a winning margin of 1,47,236 votes and the vote share at 12.4 per cent. This was 1,59,548 votes and 19.81 per cent in 2009.

Karnataka

In Dharwad, BJP won by 97,324 votes and the vote share stood at 7.12 per cent in 2024. In 2019, this was 2,05,072 votes and 16.9 per cent respectively. While the figure was 1,13,657 votes in 2014 and the vote share at 10.92 per cent, the same was 1,37,663 votes and 17.24 per cent in 2009.

West Bengal

In the Darjeeling seat, BJP retained the seat by a winning margin of 1,78,525 votes with a vote share of 13.45 per cent this year. The same was 4,13,443 and 32.62 per cent in 2019. Similarly, it was 1,97,239 winning margin and 17.27 per cent vote share in 2014. The same was 2,53,289 votes and 26.2 per cent in 2009.

Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu

In the Union Territory constituency of Daman and Diu, BJP won the seat this year by 6,225 votes and had a vote share of 6.74 per cent. The same stood at 9,942 votes and 11.37 per cent in 2019 and 9,222 votes and 10.57 per cent in 2014. The 2009 statistics recorded 24,838 votes and 36.51 per cent vote share.

Himachal Pradesh

In the Hamirpur constituency of Himachal Pradesh, BJP had a victory margin of 1,82,357 votes and 17.41 per cent votes hare in 2024. Five years ago in 2019, it was 3,99,572 votes in winning margin and 19.22 per cent in vote share. The same was 98,403 votes and 11.78 per cent in 2014 and in 2009 it was 72,732 votes and 10.4 per cent respectively.
