ICC T20 World Cup Points Table
The 2024 T20 World Cup gets underway on 1 June with USA facing neighbours Canada in the opening clash in Dallas, Texas.
The ninth edition of the T20 World Cup, which went by the name of World T20 between 2009 and 2016, is set to be a historic occasion as it will be the first ICC event taking place on American soil with the USA co-hosting the event with West Indies.
The sport, thus, is set to make a serious push towards popularising the ‘Gentleman’s Game’ in the American market later this summer. As for the Caribbean, it will be hosting its first ICC event since the 2010 World T20, in which England had beaten Australia in the final to win its maiden global event.
While the Americans will be in action on the very first day, two-time champions West Indies open their account the next day against associate nation Papua New Guinea in Guyana on 2 June.
Defending champions England, who had beaten Pakistan in the final of the 2022 edition in Melbourne to win their second title, begin their campaign against Scotland in Barbados on 4 June while inaugural champions India face Ireland in their opening match in New York City on 5 June.
This year’s T20 World Cup will have 20 teams in action including sides such as PNG and Uganda, and are divided into four groups comprising five teams each. The Men in Blue are placed in Group A alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, whom they face in a blockbuster clash in New York on 9 June, besides co-hosts USA, Canada and Ireland. They play three of their group matches in New York and the last one, against Canada, in Florida.
While USA and West Indies will be co-hosting matches in the group stage, the latter will be in charge of hosting the Super Eights as well as the semi-finals and the final, which takes place on 29 June.
