Severe storms with damaging winds and baseball-sized hail battered central and northern Texas during the Memorial Day weekend. Over one million homes and businesses were left without power, some possibly for days. The storms prompted cancellation of over 500 flights in Dallas and Houston and one person died as a result of these storms. This comes less than a week after deadly tornadoes ripped across north Texas, killing at least seven people. Meanwhile, Texas also experienced record heat across the holiday weekend. Forecasters say the heat will ease in Texas this week. However, residents without power face the risk of dangerous heat stroke and exhaustion.
