The 2024 season of Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded on Sunday with Kolkata Knight Riders lifting the trophy aloft for the third time as Sunrisers Hyderabad missed out. Only Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have won more IPL trophies than KKR with five.

In a completely one-sided final, Andre Russell and Mitchell Starc bowled SRH out to mere 113, lowest total in an IPL final, before running away with the title courtesy Venkatesh Iyer’s 52 off 26 balls.

With the IPL 2024 in the horizon, we take a look at some of the key stats from the season:

3 - KKR have now won three IPL titles, in 2012, 2014 and 2024. Only MI and CSK have more with five each

3 - KKR lost only three matches the entire season - against Punjab Kings, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals. It matches the record of fewest defeats held by RR in IPL 2008. Mumbai Indians, too, recorded three defeats in IPL 2020 season but had two more losses via Super Over

741 - Virat Kohli finished the IPL season with most runs (741) with average of 61.75 and strike rate of 154.69 despite drawing criticism for it. Kohli still remains the highest scorer in a single IPL season for his jaw-dropping 973 runs in 2016

113 - SRH’s 113 run total in the final was the lowest in the IPL title deciders. The previous lowest was CSK’s 125/9 against MI in 2013

6 - KKR bowled out the opposition six times through the course of the IPL season - the most by a team in an edition. Previous highest was four by MI in 2008 and 2010

3 - Sunil Narine has won the MVP Award thrice in IPL now - in 2012, 2018 and 2024. He is the first to win the accolade three times, going past Shane Watson and Andre Russell

1260 - IPL 2024 witnessed 1260 sixes which is the most in a single edition of the competition. The previous highest was 1124 maximums last season.

42 - Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen of SRH stood at the top of the charts with 42 and 38 sixes each. Kohli, too, hit 38 sixes in one less game played

41 - The season produced numerous 200-plus totals with 41 innings going past the once unthinkable total

14 - There were 14 centuries scored this season with Jos Buttler scoring two and Will Jacks, Jonny Bairstow, Suryakumar Yadav, B Sai Sudharsan, Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sunil Narine, Rohit Sharma, Marcus Stoinis, Travis Head, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Kohli hitting one each. It is the season with most number of centuries scored.

287/3 - The record for highest IPL total was breached four times this season. RCB’s 263/5 from 2013 looked unbeatable for years but this year it was shattered with ease. SRH posted 287/3, 277/3 and 266/7 this season with KKR posting 272/7. Also entering top-10 highest IPL totals were Punjab Kings (262/2), RCB (262/7), KKR (261/6) and DC (257/4)

25971 - The 2024 IPL season produced a staggering 25,971 runs which is 283 runs more than last season’s 25,688 runs - the previous record

24 - Harshal Patel finished as the Purple Cap holder with 24 wickets through the season despite playing two fewer matches than the players who made the final. Harshal has now won the Purple Cap twice in IPL history after clinching it in the 2021 season with 32 wickets. He joins Dwayne Bravo and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in winning the Purple Cap twice in tournament history

205 - Yuzvendra Chahal entered the 200 IPL wickets category during the season. The spinner who has represented MI, RCB and RR through 160 matches has now picked 205 wickets in IPL history - 13 more than veteran Piyush Chawla
