How did Lucknow Super Giants fare last season?

LSG won eight of their 14 matches in IPL 2023, losing five and one, against Chennai Super Kings, finished without a result.

Under the captaincies of KL Rahul and Krunal Pandya, LSG lapped up 17 points in the round robin stage - same as second place CSK but were worse off in terms of net run rate (NRR). They finished one point adrift of fourth-placed Mumbai Indians.

LSG never really faced a blip in the round robin stage with no consecutive defeats. Although, they did finish the league stage with three consecutive wins, against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders to help themselves up the ladder and into the playoff.

In the Eliminator, MI were able to exact revenge on the Super Giants at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Asked to chase 183 runs, LSG collapsed on 101 with only Marcus Stoinis (40) providing a real fight. Akash Madhwal’s fifer put the game in MI’s favour.
