Prime Minister Narendra Modi has secured a rather fractious victory in Lok Sabha election 2024, creating history and becoming one of the select few to govern the country for more than ten years.

PM Modi has secured a remarkable third consecutive term in the highest political office in the country. However, it is not the first hat-trick in the political of the former Gujuarat Chief Minister.

He assumed office as Gujarat Chief Minister in 2001 and held the position till being elected prime minister in May 2014.

Since coming to power in 2014, Narendra Modi, has been re-elected three times in a row. He has led the implementation of several large-scale initiatives that have received praise both domestically and internationally. Digitalization, economic change, and creative foreign policy are some of these initiatives.

The 73-year-old’s second term as prime minister began in 2019, with a focus on infrastructure, economic recovery, and global involvement.

In the opening of his general election campaign in 2024, Modi highlighted his achievements as president, emphasizing welfare programs, economic expansion, national pride, Hindu nationalism, and his own personal guarantee—dubbed “Modi’s Guarantee”—of keeping his word.

With 293 seats, the NDA alliance led by the BJP won the Lok Sabha election 2024 by a narrow margin on Tuesday, despite a valiant effort by the Congress-led INDI Alliance, which won 232 seats.

The BJP itself won around 240 seats more than the combined total of the INDI Alliance. However, this is much less than the 303 seats the saffron brigade had won in the last general election in 2019.

PM Modi called the win for his alliance historic and said, “We will continue the good work done in the last decade to keep fulfilling the aspirations of people.”

In a post on X, he said, “People have placed their faith in NDA, for a third consecutive time! This is a historical feat in India’s history. I bow to the Janata Janardan for this affection and assure them that we will continue the good work done in the last decade to keep fulfilling the aspirations of people.”

“I also salute all our Karyakartas for their hard work. Words will never do justice to their exceptional efforts,” he added.

However, a smaller-than-expected mandate means the BJP will have to depend more on its allies, N Chandrababu Naidu in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh and Nitish Kumar in Bihar in the east, for support.

Naidu’s Telugu Desam Party and Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) said they would endorse Modi for prime minister.
