Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with his Council of Ministers tendered his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday (June 5).
The President has accepted the resignation, Rashtrapati Bhavan has confirmed.
The President has also requested Modi and the Council of Ministers to continue till the new government assumes office.

As per sources, Modi will take oath as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive time on Saturday, June 8 around 8 pm at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

The swearing-in ceremony of the Union Cabinet is also likely to take place the same day.
The Lok Sabha election results that were declared on June 4 gave the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) a clear majority.
The BJP will be forming the government with the help of its allies, as it stopped short of half-way mark of 272 seats, by claiming victory on 240 seats. The NDA, meanwhile, bagged 293 seats in the 543-member House.
The main opposition party Congress bagged 99 seats, and the alliance led by the party - INDIA - together won 233 seats.
Earlier on Wednesday, Modi 2.0’s Cabinet held its last meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence and recommended the dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha.
The term of the current 17th Lok Sabha ends on June 16.
