Creator of The Legend Of Hanuman Sharad Devarajan is gearing up for season 3 that streams on Disney Plus Hotstar from January 12. He has spoken about the third season of the show, the character of Raavan, and how OTT as a platform has an edge over cinemas
Talking about the idea of The Legend of Hanuman, the creator revealed, “The story has always been deeply personal to me, I grew up reading mythologies. This was a a journey that shaped me throughout my life; the most important lesson I learned is that the true definition of a hero is not defined by his physical prowess but his inner faith and courage. This was the perfect balance that Lord Hanuman had. This is the aspiration we all strive for. These were the lessons I wanted to bring to the word in a unique way by a visual medium. It’s been a long labour of love.”
On his prep, Sharad revealed, “Narratively, we approached the story as a mythological blockbuster catering to the widest audience possible. We have seen the greatest of animations across the world, so there were a lot of things we wanted to do. We wanted to make sure that we were doing a very sophisticated form of storytelling. We have seen two sides of Hanuman’s stories, either as the playful child trying to eat the sun, or the massive amount of power in Lanka. There is a third side to the story that we have explored in this series and that is about his inward journey. This is the story that we have explored in the series, where Hanuman goes from feeling like an ordinary child to being awakened.”
On the character of Raavan
This is an immortal character that has lived for thousands of years and has become numb to the sense of mortality. Because Lord Hanuman has learned all these lessons from Lord Ram, he has the tendency to embark on this journey. Our story is a very unique one. As we move on to season three, we see the face off being these two immortal beings.
And while talking about the advantages of OTT over cinema, Sharad said, “We feel comfortable when we are at our homes, and deeply connected to the screen. People feel closer to the characters on OTT. Cinemas is a completely different type of experience. There are a lot of people, there is a dark room, watching something very big. OTT allows us to consume content with the people we love. The goal this time with Disney Hotstar is to see if we can reach out to as wide as audience as possible. Many people were not even aware, and then they stumbled upon the show and then told everybody about it.”
