Rohit Sharma on Wednesday became only the second Indian, after Virat Kohli to hit 4,000 T20I runs. The India skipper achieved the feat during the Men in Blue’s opening game of the T20 World Cup against Ireland in New York on Wednesday. Overall, Rohit is the third player to get to the milestone, with Pakistan skipper Babar Azam being the second.

India had won the toss and opted to field against Ireland. Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya had taken seven wickets between them to dismiss Ireland for 96, with Gareth Delaney top-scoring with 26 runs. In India’s run chase, Virat Kohli, who opened with Rohit, managed just one run off five balls before being dismissed by Mark Adair.

Rishabh Pant, who had scored a half-century in the practice match against Bangladesh, walked into bat at number three.

Rohit has scored 29 fifties and five centuries in his T20I career, with his highest being an unbeaten 121 against Afghanistan in a T20I earlier this year. India’s score was reading 58/1 in 8.2 overs at the time of writing this report.
