Many Western businesses that promised to exit Russia after the Ukraine invasion of 2022 have reportedly shelved those plans. While more than 380 Western firms have abandoned their Russian operations, around 2,000 of them are yet to do so. Russia's strict measures like exit taxes and discounts on asset sales have forced Western firms to rethink their decision. This U-turn also raises questions about the effectiveness of Western sanctions. Though Russia is said to be under 14,000 sanctions, their economy is poised to outperform the US, France, Germany and Britain. How has Putin managed to achieve this? Palki Sharma tells you.
